Thunderstorms with torrential downpours drifted very slowly east across Somerset County and caused flash flooding of several streams in the central and northern part of the county. Storm totals ranged between 2.5 and 4.0 inches. The North Branch of the Raritan River, Green Brook, Middle Brook, Peter's Brook and Spooky Brook all flooded. A small brook also flooded some backyards on Gress Street in Manville. U.S. Route 22 was closed in sections of Green Brook Township. Hillsborough, Bridgewater and Branchburg Townships reported many flooded roadways, especially toward the Hunterdon County border. A flooded brook covered 40 to 50 backyards in Bound Brook. Storm totals included 3.70 inches in Martinsville, 3.33 inches in Somerville and Bedminster, 3.10 inches in Bound Brook and 2.40 inches in North Plainfield. No serious injuries were reported.
