A stationary front over the middle Mississippi Valley produced numerous thunderstorms from the 16th to the 20th. Rainfall amounts from 4 to 10 inches were common upriver. This drove the Mississippi River up to flood stage at Cape Girardeau. The crest of 32.0 feet, exactly at flood stage, produced some minor flooding of agricultural bottomlands.
