Flooding rains that fell during the early morning of July 9 and 10 caused the Root River to overflow its banks for the second time in as many months. A family living along the river near Hokah (Houston County) had to be rescued due to rising water. Extensive flooding of farmland negated the reseeding of crops, which were lost due to flooding in June. At Hokah, the river crested on July 12 at 49.4 feet, nearly 2.5 feet above flood stage.
