A strong low pressure system spread high winds over all the area from late on the 7th to the early evening of the 8th. The strong winds downed a number of power lines and power poles and resulted in 5 thousand customers in Topeka alone to be without power for a time.

A strong low pressure system spread high winds over all the area from late on the 7th to the early evening of the 8th. The strong winds downed a number of power lines and power poles and resulted in 5 thousand customers in Topeka alone to be without power for a time. A barn near Lawrence had its door blown off its hinges and damaged it as it was blown into a nearby fence. Another barn near Lawrence had the north wall burned by a grass fire spurred on by the high winds. A leaning concrete and tile silo east of Holton was blown over. Winds clocked at 52 mph damaged a business sign in Ottawa.
