A cold front moved southeast across Iowa during the previous night. The front became stationary over southeast Iowa by sunrise. A weak low pressure system, and associated upper level short wave, moved northeast along the front. A few thunderstorms erupted well in the cold air. most of the cells were short lived and produced little more than brief heavy rain as they passed. One storm produced nickel size hail just northwest of the town of Scranton in Greene County . Enough hail fell to cover the ground. After dumping the hail, the storm weakened quickly.
