Severe thunderstorms erupted west of a line from Waterloo to Des Moines Tuesday evening. The storms weakened some as they moved into Eastern Iowa late Tuesday evening, and continued through the early morning on Wednesday. A few reports of large hail were received from Jones and Louisa Counties, but mainly the storms brought vivid lightning and heavy rain. 2 to 3 inches of rain fell in Columbus Junction sending Buck and Richey Creeks out of their banks, while standing water forced the closure of some streets.
