A very warm and humid airmass was in place over Iowa as a weak cold frontal system moved across the state. A weak surface low moved northeast along the front and was over central Iowa by mid afternoon.

A very warm and humid airmass was in place over Iowa as a weak cold frontal system moved across the state. A weak surface low moved northeast along the front and was over central Iowa by mid afternoon. Temperatures reached the mid 80s to low 90s, with dew point readings in the mid 70s. Though the atmosphere was fairly capped, however thunderstorms did begin to develop along a convergence zone that sank south into the state. One cell became severe over Tama County and produced hail a little larger than an inch in diameter. The storm lasted about 45 minutes before weakening and did not produce any further severe weather.
