A 24-year-old Hoover man was apparently struck by lightning while refueling an airplane at the Birmingham International Airport. The man was found lying on the ground and holding his arm. Witnesses reported seeing two lightning strikes at about that time. It was not completely clear whether the man was struck directly or whether water on the ground acted as a conduit for the lightning.
