Drought reduced the yields of winter wheat and green peas during the harvest this month. Below average rainfall affected most of the Columbia basin and the foothills of the Blue Mountains this winter and spring. Kennewick, which is a part of the Tri-Cities area, received only 2.58 inches of rain since January 1st. This is 65 percent of the yearly average. Whitman Mission, located in the foothills near Walla Walla, received 5.87 inches. This is 75 percent of the yearly average rainfall.
