An isolated severe thunderstorm moved across the Big Country on the evening of the 24th, producing very large hail and high winds. The city of Abilene took the brunt of the storm, when golf ball size hail and winds over 80 mph struck the north side of the city.

The city of Abilene took the brunt of the storm, when golf ball size hail and winds over 80 mph struck the north side of the city. Even larger hail up to the size of baseballs was reported just east of town in Shackelford County.
