Damaging Wind in Pennsylvania, May 24, 1999
A severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and power lines across the southeast part of Chester County. In Westtown Township near Pennsylvania State Route 926, the jaws of life were used to free two trapped occupants after their vehicle was pinned by a fallen tree.

A severe thunderstorm knocked down trees and power lines across the southeast part of Chester County. In Westtown Township near Pennsylvania State Route 926, the jaws of life were used to free two trapped occupants after their vehicle was pinned by a fallen tree. About 12,000 homes and businesses lost power that afternoon. Throughout PECO Energy's service area 82,000 homes and businesses lost power, half of the outages were caused by direct lightning hits and about 20 percent of the outages were caused by the wind.
