Flooding in Oklahoma, April 25 to 28, 1999

The Bird Creek at Avant rose above its flood stage of 16 feet at 1000 AM CDT on April 25. The river crested at 26.1 feet at 400 PM CDT on April 25 before falling back below flood stage at 200 AM CDT on April 26.The Bird Creek at Sperry rose above its flood stage of 21 feet at 100 PM CDT on April 25. The river crested at 28.9 feet at 600 PM CDT on April 26 before falling back below flood stage at 1200 AM CDT on April 28.The Bird Creek at Owasso (Mingo Road) rose above its flood stage of 19 feet at 300 PM CDT on April 25. The river crested at 25.6 feet at noon CDT on April 27 before falling back below flood stage at 100 PM CDT on April 28.At Skiatook, OK Hwys 11 and 20 were closed due to overflows from Bird Creek. A 4x5 block area in east Skiatook was affected by flood waters, damaging nine homes and eight businesses. In north Tulsa, floodwaters from Bird Creek flooded the Tulsa Gun Club building with three feet of water. The parking lot of the Tulsa Zoo flooded, closing the zoo for a couple of days. Throughout Tulsa County, a Red Cross report showed 30 homes suffering minor damage, most of which was probably due to flash flooding, although there were some homes in northern Tulsa County which were damaged by the overflows from Bird Creek.
