A cluster of thunderstorms developed over the Great Lakes during the afternoon of July 3. The storms moved east southeast just south of a warm front, propagating into Western New York around sunset. The storms moved into the Mohawk Valley and Capital region later that evening. The storms produced isolated damage which included fallen trees in West Windfield, Herkimer county, Canajoharie in Montgomery county and Cobleskill in Schoharie County. Power lines were brought down in Prattsville Greene county which produced a number of power outages. Also trees and wires were blown down in New Scotland, Albany county.
