A severe thunderstorm produced wind of at least 70 mph in and around North Platte. At the Union Pacific Railroad's Bailey Yard, the wind damaged several rail cars. Despite having air brakes set, six railroad cars were displaced for a considerable distance and derailed. In the process, minor damage was sustained by the tracks.
