Heavy rain during the first few days of April sent the St. Francis River rising an incredible 23.9 feet in 24 hours between the 3rd and 4th. At Patterson, where flood stage is 16 feet, the river crested at 30.79 feet on the morning of the 4th. This was the fourth highest crest on record. Rainfall of 6 to 8 inches in the headwater basin of the river caused this major flood. Highway 34 between Patterson and Silva was under two feet of water. Highway 143 at Sam A. Baker State Park and Highway FF were closed. Evacuations of campgrounds along the river were conducted.
