An extremely unstable airmass on June 7 resulted in scattered severe thunderstorms late in the afternoon across Litchfield County. The thunderstorms produced large hail dime size and larger. Hail of dime to nickel size was reported at Torrington, and Bakersville. New Hartford reported walnut size hail. Winchester Center was especially hard hit with dime to quarter size hail occurring four separate times in the course of an hour. In addition, a wind gust was clocked at 60 mph at Winchester Center.
