Flash Flood, Copper River Basin

One or more lakes in the headwaters of the Nelchina river, dammed by the Nelchina Glacier, apparently released around 8 am Friday. The Nelchina River drains into the Tazlina River at Tazlina Lake. The Tazlina River at the Richardson Highway Bridge had risen about 2 feet from Friday morning to Saturday evening. On Sunday the river had become fairly steady, with some low lying areas downstream from the bridge under water. Damage was mostly to Forest Service land and to several out-structures.
