Thunderstorm Wind, Somerset

Downburst winds began at the top of Laurel Mountain in Forbes State Forest near the Westmoreland County line. Damage from the downburst extended east-southeast for nearly 23 miles, occasionally uprooting or snapping a tree and causing more general limb damage. Communities affected were Gray, Ralphton, Stoystown, and Buckstown. Path of minimal damage was up to 2 miles wide near Stoystown. A small (F1) tornado formed near the end of the damage path in Buckstown (see Buckstown tornado).
