High Wind, Northeast Oregon

A surfacing mountain wave caused destructive wind in and around the towns of Joseph and Enterprise. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down. People were trapped in a car near some downed power lines. There were explosions on the power grid in Enterprise and 1500 people were without electricity and phone service. A horse trailer was also blown off the road. Fences were blown onto roads and a sign was snapped off at ground level. The roof was blown off of a house in Joseph. Several hay shed roofs were also blown off. The peak wind gust in Joseph was 82 mph at 230 AM with sustained wind of 73 mph. The highest sustained wind at the La Grande airport was 37 mph with gusts to 51 mph at 11:55 pm.
