Strong winds and torrential rains associated with the remnants of Huricane Earl caused additional damage to the Carteret Community College student center/classroom building, which was already severely damaged during Hurricane Bonnie. The winds caused temporary protective measures installed after Bonnie to break allowing water from the heavy rains to enter the building. The rain caused water damage to the structure and contents of the building. Fabriform installed to stabilize the shoreline in front of the Crystal Coast Civic Center and western campus broke apart causing significant erosion.
