One severe thunderstorm in the mountains produced quarter size hail and damaging winds that downed trees and power lines. Other severe thunderstorms developed in the southern piedmont for the second day in a row. Numerous trees and power lines were blown down, some falling on or near Interstate 77 near Mooresville, some along Hwy 205 in Union county, and one on a house in Unionville. Eleven thousand people were left without power in the southeastern part of Mecklenburg county.
