Flash Flood, Onondaga

A complex of early morning thunderstorms produced flash flooding in southwestern sections of the county along Skaneateles Creek. Several roads were closed for a few hours immediately adjacent to the creek. Also, some nearby homes had severe basement flooding and even some water into the first floor. By mid morning, thunderstorms had dissipated and water levels receded. However, residual boundaries left behind by this area of thunderstorms helped spark isolated severe weather later in the afternoon across central New York.

A thunderstorm became severe as it accelerated across northern sections of the county late in the afternoon. Trees and wires were downed in Richfield Springs around 410 pm EDT. Almost 30 minutes later in the northeastern corner of the county, the same cell was responsible for additional downed trees in Cherry Valley.
