Severe thunderstorms formed in a warm, moist, and unstable airmass ahead of an approaching cold front. In addition to producing 1.75- inch diameter size hail at Hoboken, thunderstorms also produced hail less than 0.75-inch in diameter at Lyndhurst in Bergen County.
