A low pressure system passed from west to well north of the local area. A "back-door" cold front slipped just south of the area as another cold front extending from the low approached the area. Widespread showers and thunderstorms developed in a moist unstable airmass ahead of the approaching cold front.Heavy rainfall from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 inches produced widespread flooding of streets, low-lying, and poor drainage areas. Significant street flooding occurred in the vicinity of Meeker Blvd. in Hoboken where cars were trapped in high water under over-passes. Widespread street flooding was reported across Union County, where up to 2 feet of water "pooled" in low-lying and poor drainage areas.Selected rainfall amounts were: 2.35 inches at Harrison (Hudson County) and 2.26 inches at Canoe Brook (Union County).
