Surface low pressure was located over southeast Iowa as the upper level low pressure and cold pool drifted over the state. Thunderstorms erupted over central into east central Iowa during the evening hours. The freezing level was very low, only around 6000 feet. The storms were small, but did produce hail. Three quarter inch diameter hail fell in Powechiek County, with one inch diameter hail falling over the southeast corner of Tama County.
