Flooding in Illinois, July 6, 1998
A narrow band of thunderstorms dumped between three and four inches of rain in less than three hours over parts of north central and east central Illinois. In La Salle County the heavy rain caused a portion of the Spring Valley Road to collapse, leaving a hole about 12 feet wide and 10 feet deep.

A narrow band of thunderstorms dumped between three and four inches of rain in less than three hours over parts of north central and east central Illinois. In La Salle County the heavy rain caused a portion of the Spring Valley Road to collapse, leaving a hole about 12 feet wide and 10 feet deep. Street and basement flooding and flooding of farm fields occured in Streator, Piper City, Chatsworth, Onarga, and Cissna Park. State Road 115 was closed in Piper City. Some rainfall amounts included 3.25 inches at Piper City, 3.2 inches at Pontiac, 3.8 inches at Cissna Park and 3.1 inches at Streator.
