A squall line of severe thunderstorms caused wind damage across northern New Castle County hitting Brandywine Hundred the hardest. About 28,000 homes and businesses lost power. Power was not completely restored until June 3rd. About 50 poles were knocked down along with hundreds of trees. The lack of power forced some schools to cancel classes on the 1st. Downed trees and wires were reported in Pike Creek and Wilmington. The worst damage occurred within Brandywine Hundred. The Talleyville Fire Company responded to seventy calls alone. There were at least four homes damaged by fallen trees. The Forest Hill Park development was cut off as all roads leading in and out were blocked by downed trees. Other hard hit areas within Brandywine included Carrcroft and Sharpley.
