An area of low pressure in the middle levels of the atmosphere interacted with a surface high pressure system over the lee of the Rockies to produce strong winds across the western Oklahoma Panhandle. Sustained winds of 35 to 40 knots were reported along with gusts of 44 to 52 knots.
