The air mass over Iowa remained extremely unstable with lifted indices once again near -15 degrees C. and CAPE values near 6000 J/kg. The old outflow boundary from the convection that had occurred during the early morning of the 21st had moved north into the state. Thunderstorms fired along it over northern Iowa during the late afternoon hours. These storms produced large hail in Humboldt and Hancock Counties. Hail up to baseball size pelted the town of Humboldt. At the time, WSR-88D VIL values were 86 Kg/m/m. Damage was caused in the city to cars and building roofs.
