A strong upper level circulation dropped southeast across Iowa during the evening hours. The air mass was marginally unstable and surface dew point temperatures had risen to the mid to upper 60s over the southern part of the state. An outflow boundary was located from east central Nebraska, across southwest Iowa, into east central Missouri. This became the focus for isolated thunderstorms. The storms were of the pulse type. One storm developed rapidly in Union County. During it's brief life, WSR-88D VIL values soared to 61 Kg/m/m. During this time, the storm dumped hail on the town of Lorimor. Much of it was marble size, with a few stones up to an inch in diameter.
