Severe thunderstorms ahead of a cold front had produced some damage in Alabama the morning of the 21st. The storms weakened as they moved into western Georgia, but by early afternoon they began to re-intensify. Three main areas joined together to form a line of thunderstorms. Bow echoes along the line produced damaging winds and possibly a few funnels as the line marched across north Georgia during the afternoon.Thunderstorm winds flipped light airplanes over at McCollum Airport near Kennesaw.
