A line of scattered severe thunderstorms developed ahead of a cold front extending from New England south across the Carolinas.Thunderstorms produced 58 mph wind gusts in Hamden and 1 inch diameter hail in North Branford. They also produced 1.75 inch diameter hail that dented cars in Colchester.Lightning struck a house at 730 pm in Lyme of New London County. The extent of damage was unknown.
