Flash flood producing thunderstorms eventually drifted into theeastern part of Green county. Rainfall amounts within a 5 hour period totaled 6 to 8 inches in the northeast corner of the county around Brooklyn to 10 to 12 inches in the Monticello to Brodhead area. Several roads and bridges were washed out in the Monticello to Brodhead area. Highway 39 east of Monticello suffered severe damage and was projected to be closed for several months for repairs. About 25,000 acres of farmland had serious flooding and erosion in a 10 mile wide swath from Monticello to Brodhead, with 20% of these acres having a total loss. Water was reported to be 10 feet high in some farm fields. Water levels on the Sugar River in Brodhead were the highest since 1975. The river this location crested at 8.69 feet at 1200CST on the 18th, or 3.69 feet over flood stage. The river was above flood stage from 0515CST on the 18th through 0605CST on July 21st.
