Severe thunderstorms erupted in the afternoon heat and humidity. Some large hail was reported but the main effect was damaging wind. Numerous trees and power lines were downed in the locations listed above. Power was out most of the night for thousands of customers; especially in Anderson, Oconee and Greenwood counties. Lighting struck and partially burned a plant in Westminster.
