An unusually powerful early season nor'easter was produced by a large coastal storm system that developed in conjunction with moisture from the remnants of Pacific Hurricane Fausto. Heavy rain drenched the state with totals of two to three and a half inches beginning at 11 PM EDT on the 17th (2200 EST) [Data entry program restricts heavy rain entries to 12 hours only, which is why it is listed as beginning at 0000 EST/18th.] Providence reported a total of 3.26 inches. There were a few scattered reports of urban flooding.
