Severe thunderstorms caused wind damage in a number of towns in the central third of Berks County. Damage was reported in Reading, Hamburg, Muhlenberg, Kenhorst, Adamstown, Mohrsville, Wernersville and Wyomissing. Hardest hit were Reading and Wernersville where large trees were uprooted, landed on and damaged several homes. Interstate 78 was closed for about one hour at Hamburg when the wind blew a portable construction sign over. About 6,500 Metropolitan Edison customers lost power in the county and an additional 900 Pennsylvania, Power and Light customers lost power in Wyomissing and Wernersville. No injuries were reported.
