Dry weather persisted throughout the month across northwest Pennsylvania. Total precipitation for the month averaged from one to three inches. Average rainfall for northwest Pennsylvania is around four inches. The city of Erie in Erie County had 1.52 inches total precipitation for the month (2.54 inches less than normal). Crops that normally mature during August were affected by the dry weather and crop losses averaged around ten percent with the total dollar loss amount unknown.
