Strong downburst winds from a severe thunderstorm produced substantial damage through a path across Greene County. Numerous trees were downed. Twenty structures were either damaged or destroyed in the county. Waynesburg was particularly hard hit. Most of the roof of a hotel was torn from the building. Damage to the hotel alone totaled $60,000. Part of the hotel's roof struck the side of a passing pick-up truck. The driver was not injured, but his truck door was damaged and a window was smashed. A few cars in the parking lot were also damaged. Roofs were also torn from barns, houses and a roller skating rink in and near Waynesburg. Heavy damage was occurred at the Greene County Fairgrounds, where about 15 unoccupied horse stalls were destroyed. The fair office, a mobile home, blew off its foundation, rolled, and was destroyed.
