Hail in Oklahoma, June 3, 1996

Severe thunderstorms developed in northeast Oklahoma during the late evening of June 2nd and early morning of June 3rd. Thunderstorm winds estimated at 80 to 100 miles an hour downed telephone poles and blew the roof off a fencing company at 41st Street and 29th West Avenue in the western part of the city of Tulsa, and numerous trees and power lines were blown down in the Red Fork area in the western part of the city. Thunderstorm winds gusted to 60 miles an hour near Leonard and in Jamesville.Dime to quarter size hail fell at numerous locations in the city of Tulsa, and the hail covered the ground at spots in the southern part of the city. The hail covered the ground to a depth of 4 inches at 75th and St. Louis in the southern part of the city of Tulsa. Quarter size hail also fell at Bixby, and dime to quarter size hail fell near Leonard. Nickel size hail fell 4 miles north of Natura and at Jamesville, and dime size hail fell 3 miles west northwest of Jay, at Sand Springs, and at Oneta.
