A cold front moved south across New York late Friday night (5/10/96) and Saturday (5/11/96). A low pressure system developed along the front Saturday in central New York and moved into the Gulf of Maine by Sunday morning (5/12/96). Rain fell across New York Friday night and Saturday. The rain mixed with and changed to snow late Saturday night and Sunday...especially above the 1000 foot level. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain fell before the changeover...while between 2 and 5 inches of wet snow accumulated in the Adirondacks with very slippery roads.Many rivers swelled to bankful Saturday and Sunday. Minor field flooding was reported along the Ausable River...especially around Ausable Forks and Keeseville. Minor field flooding was reported along Cobblehill Brook in Lake Placid.
