A low pressure system off the Southeast U.S. Coast moved northwest toward the Mid-Atlantic Coast. Blocked by a high pressure system to its' northeast, the low turned north and weakened as it passed just east of New York City before dawn on Tuesday, June 4th.Heavy rain caused widespread urban flooding (of low-lying and poor drainage areas), including street flooding. Several traffic accidents occurred as a result of "slick" roads.In Essex County, the roof of a car was barely visible as it floated under the McClellan Street underpass in Newark. Urban flooding also closed a section of McCarter Highway near Third Ave. and a portion of Frelinghuysen Ave. near McClellan Street.Here are some specific rainfall amounts:o For Passaic County - 2.97 inches at Wayne.o For Bergen County - from 2.52 inches at Saddle River to 2.79 inches at River Vale.o For Essex County - from 2.65 inches at Newark Airport to 3.02 inches at West Orange.o For Union County - 3.46 inches at Elizabeth.
