What happened

The episode as NWS PHI wrote it up.

A low pressure system developed near Cape Hatteras the morning of the 9th, intensified and moved slowly northeast during the next 24 hours. It reached Cape Cod the morning of the 10th. This caused a late season rain and snow storm across New Jersey with the heaviest accumulations along Coastal New Jersey. Precipitation started as rain in Southern New Jersey and a rain and snow mixture farther north during the predawn hours on the 9th. Precipitation type became intensity dependent during the day on the 9th. When precipitation became heavier, it fell as snow; when its intensity decreased, it changed back to rain. Nevertheless above freezing temperatures plus indirect radiation from the April sun caused much of the snow to melt as it reached the ground during the day.As sunset arrived (after 7 p.m. EDT), the snow began to accumulate mainly on grassy areas and overpasses across the area. But, this was not the case across coastal New Jersey where bands of heavy wet snow began accumulating on all surfaces including roadways. By the evening hours, the heaviest precipitation was mainly confined to the east of the New Jersey Turnpike. Accumulations averaged around 2 inches with the lightest accumulations in Sussex County. Roads and overpasses became slippery and this caused some accidents.Specific accumulations included 4 inches in Belle Mead and Flemington, 3 inches in Wrightstown, 2 to 3 inches in the hills of Morris County, 2 inches in New Brunswick and Mount Laurel, 1 inch in Hackettstown and less than an inch in Wantage. This was the last measurable snow of the season for New Jersey. The following are seasonal snowfall accumulations, many are records, but the state snowfall record of 108 inches remained intact. Wantage (Sussex) 107 inches, Newton (Sussex) 98.5 inches, Knowlton (Warren) 93.5 inches, Rockaway Township and Chatham (Morris) 90.8 inches, Long Valley (Morris) 87 inches, Fords (Middlesex) 81.6 inches, Schooley's Mountain (Morris) 80.4 inches, Belle Mead (Somerset) 76.8 inches, New Brunswick (Middlesex) 76.5 inches a new record, Bridgewater (Somerset) 70.7 inches, Mount Laurel (Burlington) 69 inches, Mount Holly (Burlington) 67 inches, Flemington (Hunterdon) 65.9 inches, Hightstown (Mercer) 64.7 inches, Estelle Manor (Atlantic) 53.1 inches, Woodstown (Salem) 51.4 inches, Downstown (Gloucester) 50 inches, Seabrook (Cumberland) 47.6 inches and Cape May City (Cay May) 44.3 inches.
