The Mississippi River was above flood stage from May 4 to May 31 at New Madrid, Missouri. It crested there at 41.0 feet on May 19, well above the flood stage of 34 feet. Floodgates were raised at Hickman. Bottomland roads and cropland were submerged. Two people escaped injury when their vehicle sank in floodwaters near Hickman.
