Heavy rainfall in excess of 5 inches fell in northwest and north central Indiana on the night of July 17th through the morning of the 18th. The rainfall caused flooding of homes and businesses, flooding of creeks and small streams and flooding of many roads.

Heavy rainfall in excess of 5 inches fell in northwest and north central Indiana on the night of July 17th through the morning of the 18th. The rainfall caused flooding of homes and businesses, flooding of creeks and small streams and flooding of many roads. Some rainfall reports included 7.44 inches at Hobart (Lake County), 6.36 inches at Hebron (Porter County), 6.00 inches at LaPorte (LaPorte County), 5.50 inches at Walkerton (St. Joseph County), 5.80 inches at Wheatfield (Jasper County), 4.30 inches at North Judson (Starke County), and 5.45 inches and Lake of the Woods (Marshall County). Flooding of the Little Calumet River occurred in Lake County. On the Kankakee River at Davis at the Route 30 bridge recorded an all-time record crest. Widespread lowland agricultural flooding occurred along the Kankakee River. As many as 35 homes were affected by high water in Winimac from the Tippecanoe River.
