Severe thunderstorms moved through parts of north-central and northeast Wisconsin during the late afternoon and evening hours, producing large hail, damaging winds to at least 60 mph, and isolated torrential downpours. Hail up to 1.75 inches in diameter (golf ball-size) pummeled parts of Vilas and Oneida counties. Hardest hit was the Eagle River (Vilas County) area, where two consecutive hail storms hit. Strong thunderstorm winds blew down light poles in Hazelhurst (Oneida County), and uprooted large trees just south of Hazelhurst near Bear Skin Lake. Numerous trees and power lines were felled near Crane and Pickerel Lakes in the far southwest corner of Forest County. Trees were snapped off or uprooted southeast of Tomahawk and in Gleason (Lincoln County); in Medford (Taylor County); and in the Deerbrook and Pickerel areas (Langlade County). The Thorp area (Clark County) was hit by two rounds of thunderstorms. The first round had violent winds tipping over a mobile home and airborne debris damaging a few vehicles. In the second round several trees were toppled by high winds. Powerful thunderstorm winds also pulled down telephone poles in Stratford (Marathon County).
