During the late evening of the 29th, four supercell thunderstorms developed and moved south-southeast across north Texas producing numerous reports of golf ball- to baseball-size hail, with some hail up to 3.5 inches in diameter in Grapevine and Euless. The first storm came across the Red River into Grayson County moving almost due south before dissipating in eastern Ellis County. Storms two and three developed in northwest and southwest Denton County, respectively, and moved southeast across the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex causing over $220 million in damage before becoming non-severe in Freestone County. Storm two moved across the DFW airport damaging over 100 planes, resulting in hundreds of flight cancellations, and closing the airport temporarily. The fourth storm developed in northern Hood County, then moved nearly due south before dissipating in central Bosque County.
