A small area of severe thunderstorms developed in the mountains and moved into the Greenville-Spartanburg area. The storms then exploded along outflow boundaries. Wind damage was widespread but mainly confined to downed trees and power lines, some of which fell on structures and vehicles. The most intense storm developed just west of Greenville and moved south through Moonville, Ware Place, and through much of Laurens County. This storm produced a large area of macroburst damage with pockets of microbursts. The greatest damage occurred at Ware Place and at Fountain Inn where numerous trees were downed, roofs and siding of homes were damaged, and trees fell on homes. In Powdersville, lightning struck the "Opry House" burning it to the ground.
