Tornadoes and Hail in Maryland, November 11, 1995

An apparent microburst knocked down tens of trees along Chapel Point Road near State Route 6 in the Port Tobacco area just southwest of La Plata. Several large oaks were among them, and one caused $100 thousand in damage to a home. Physicians Memorial Hospital in Waldorf reported four times the usual Saturday night "business"; however, whether any of the services were storm related (to injury) was not determined.

A small tornado uprooted 40 to 50 trees, including many hardwoods, at a farm residence in extreme northeast Harford County. Two homes sustained roof damage from some of the fallen trees.

A severe thunderstorm produced a microburst which caused substantial tree damage, and minor damage to a home and shed, near Sotterley. Isolated instances of downed trees were noted in an area bounded by Hollywood and Lexington Park.

A combination gustnado and microburst struck near Hollywood, downing numerous pine and hardwood trees. Fallen trees caused minor damage to three homes, including stripped siding and a limb through a window. The apparent gustnado had a very short and narrowrow track (0.3 miles long, 25-yards wide) and was embedded within the microburst.

The same thunderstorm which produced combination downbursts and gustnadoes in southeast St Mary's County produced additional damage along the north shore of the Patuxent River from Solomons through the Chesapeake Ranch Estates. Numerous trees were uprooted or snapped, including a 100-foot tall oak which crashed onto a vehicle.

Naval weather observers reported a gustnado on the ground at 2110. The storm blew out automobile windows on base, and destroyed a wooden missile mock-up.

Ninety-one mph wind reported at Crisfield. Seventy-five mph wind reported at Smith Island. Several moorings damaged in Smith Island. Numerous trees and power lines and three homes damaged in Crisfield. Trees and power lines down other parts of county as well.

Numerous power lines down and poles snapped. Trees down, some caused damage to buildings.

Several power poles snapped off. Trees were downed. Roofs off two chicken houses in Parsonsburg; one chicken house destroyed and VFW damaged in Powellville.

Brief tornado touchdown in generally open farm area approximately four miles north of Snow Hill. Tornado path was bisected by Route 354 (about one-quarter mile north of Porters Crossing Road) on a WSW to ENE track. Numerous trees uprooted or snapped/twisted off. No structural damage, although farm house within 50 feet of tornado path was left completely untouched.

One-inch hail damaged a car windshield.

Microburst caused extensive damage to a several block area (65th to 74th streets) in Ocean City. Roof damage, some significant, to several motels, homes and restaurants. One older home completely unroofed. Numerous boats in dry dock were overturned and damaged or destroyed by the microburst. Flying debris caused other minor structural damage. Approximately 15 power poles were snapped off, and numerous signs were damaged or destroyed. Power out to 7,300 customers. Winds estimated between 75 and 100 mph.
