An isolated severe thunderstorm moved across southern Benton County and northern Washington County during the early evening of September 30th. A microburst occurred in the Apple Meadow subdivision near Apple Blossom and Old Wire roads in the community of Bethel Heights, which is two miles south of Lowell. Nearly every home in the subdivision sustained some damage, and three homes were totally destroyed and three others sustained major damage. One minor injury occurred when a ceiling caved in on the person. Numerous trees and power lines were also blown down in Bethel Heights. Damage in Bethel Heights was estimated at $3.5 million. Trees were also blown down by strong thunderstorm winds in Elm Springs.
