A 48-year-old man was struck and killed by lightning while working in a field baling hay. The man and his wife were baling hay when their work was interrupted by a thunderstorm. It was not completely clear whether the man killed was on a tractor at the time or just in the open field. Thunderstorm wind downed trees in the Altoona/Walnut Grove area of western Etowah County. What was described as a microburst occurred in the Pleasant Grove and Sims area of Marshall County just south of Guntersville downing trees and power lines. Several thousand customers in the southern portion of Marshall County were without power. Minor damage was done to several buildings including one barn was destroyed.
Numerous trees and tree limbs were reported down in the Holt area just west of the city of Tuscaloosa.
Wind with a thunderstorm downed several trees in scattered locations across Walker County. According to 911, all damage was cleaned up within an hour.
Thunderstorm wind removed part of the roof to the concession stand at the Winston County Drag Strip in southwest Winston County. Several trees were also downed in the area.
